Acts prohibited within areas designated for horse camping.
The following acts or omissions are prohibited at designated horse camps within the Hoosier National Forest.

Forest Order
Pursuant to the Secretary of Agriculture’s Regulations 36 CFR 261.50 (a), the following acts or omissions are prohibited at designated horse camps within the Hoosier National Forest.
- Entering or remaining in a horse camp between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. except for persons occupying or attempting to occupy such campgrounds. [36 CFR 261.58 (c)]
- Camping within 300 feet of a designated horse camp. [36 CFR 261.58 (e)]
- Hitching, tethering, or hobbling a horse, or other saddle or pack animal to other than established hitching posts, fences, or within corrals [36 CFR 261.58 (aa)]
- Tying stock within reach of any living tree. [36 CFR 261.58 (aa)] 5. Allowing any horse, mule, or other livestock to move at faster than a walk while within the designated boundaries of a horse camp. [36 CFR 261.58 (aa)]
These restrictions are necessary for public safety and to protect the National Forest resources. Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e) the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
- Any federal, state, or local officer involved in National Forest administration, law enforcement, search and rescue or fire fighting in performance of an official duty station.
Violation of the prohibitions of this Order are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or both. [Titles 16 USC 551, 18 USC 3559, and 18 USC 3571]
