Dr. Keenan Adams - Forest Supervisor
Keenan has served as El Yunque’s Forest Supervisor, since 2019. Before, Keenan worked for the National Wildlife Refuge System as the Division Chief of Scientific Resources in Lakewood, CO. Over the course of his career, he has served as the DOI Natural and Cultural Resource Recovery Field Coordinator post Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, a spatial ecologist for the Refuge System National Inventory and Monitoring Program, the Deputy Refuge Manager over four National Wildlife Refuges in Florida, Assistant Refuge Manager of Carolina Sandhills NWR, a biologist trainee on the Tellico Ranger District at the Cherokee National Forest, and a wildlife intern at the Lincoln National Forest in Southern New Mexico.
Keenan has always been fascinated with social and ecological systems and has a passion for working with local communities. Currently he is focusing his professional learning in economic development and regenerative tourism. After playing college football and finishing a B.S. in Biology at Furman University, he chose to pursue a career in natural resource management. Keenan was awarded his M.S. degree in Forest Resources (avian and disturbance ecology) and PhD in Wildlife Biology with a concentration in human dimensions from Clemson University. Adams is a regenerative cacao farmer, enjoys landscape photography, and is an avid traveler. Keenan is a strong proponent of having a healthy work/life balance and believes in the power of laughter.
