ESCCRP Project Area Closure
This forest order prohibits access to roads affected by the ESCRRP project to provide for public safety while contractors perform forest health and fuels reduction work for the "Misery West" portion of the project, located on the east side of Mammoth Scenic Loop Road, just north of the Town of Mammoth Lakes.

ESCCRP "Misery West" Project Area Closure
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety while contractors perform forest health and fuels reduction work for the Misery West Project, the following acts are prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from May 28, 2025, through June 15, 2025.
1. Entering or being in the Misery West Project Area Closure: The boundary of the Misery West Project Area Closure begins on the Mammoth Scenic Loop at (37.661632N 118.988061W) and continues north 0.9 miles to the intersection with Forest System Road
03S24. Boundary follows Forest System Rd 03S24 east to the intersection with Forest System Rd 03S110. Boundary continues south along Forest System Rd 03S24 until it intersects with Forest System Rd 03S33. The boundary traces Forest System Rd 03S33
east and then south until it intersects Forest Service Rd 03S33F.
The boundary follows 03S33F south until the intersection of Forest Service Rds 03S33G and 03S33F. At this intersection, the boundary heads east to (37.664588N 118.978088W) on Forest Service Rd 03S34 then follows this south until the intersection of Forest Service Rd 03S34C. The boundary traces Forest Service Rd 03S34C southwest until the intersection of Forest Service Rds 03S34C and 03S34D. From this intersection the boundary returns west to the original location on the Mammoth Scenic Loop at (37.661632N 118.988061W), as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with an approved Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails,
or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the
performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
